This gruelling 20.5km mountain endurance marathon has the elevation difference of 375m. The course has some great views of the city, only if you have the strength and time to enjoy it. Finishers will receive a certificate, and first to sixth place in each class will be awarded.

Minamiuonuma city is the site for the bicycle road race of the 2009 National Athletic Meet held in Niigata prefecture. The city and the Bicycle Race League of Niigata has been holding pre-Nationals races to gain experience, encourage and strengthen athletes. The course is set around the beautiful Shakunage Lake, where primary school students to top athletes participate in the exciting race.

"No" - Agriculture and "Yu" - Play are the basic principles of Yairo no Mori Park. At the festival, visitors can harvest grapes and wine grapes (numbers are limited, one bunch each), and enjoy food and music in the beautiful slow-life environment. Grilled pork, Koshihikari rice balls and local food and wine will also be on sale.

Dedicating the masked dance at Wakamiya Hachimangu has 200 years of tradition, and is held on 14th and 15th September every year.
32 masks and 26 plays preserved are designated intangible cultural asset by the city.

Enjoy Koshihikari rice making from sowing in spring to harvesting in autumn. Rice making does not end there. In addition, experience threshing, shelling, cleaning and have a go at straw crafts. Old farming machinery will be on display.

Approximately 1,500 of the carefully nurtured chrysanthemum flowers are gathered at Fuko Temple by enthusiasts from Uonuma city, Tokamachi city, Ojiya city and far as Nagaoka city for the flower show.

Asakusa and Muikamachi (part of Minamiuonuma city), begun their relationship as the two filming locations of a NHK morning serial drama, "Kokoro - Heart". New Koshihikari rice, water from Uonuma and Koshihikari rice balls will be on sale.

Let's take a walk in the great nature and clean air of Uonuma! Mushroom rice, mushroom soup and drinks will be served. There are games and lottery too!

Local groups and societies gather and sell products and perform stage acts. It is a lively festival where everyone can participate.

Hiwatari, worshipers walk over red hot burning cedar barefoot while praying for family safety and health . Visitors can also take part.

This event is held on the Culture Day (national holiday) every year, and is full of fun! Shops and stalls will be out for visitors to taste the local food and drink. There are craft work shops and exhibitions for those who are feeling creative, and vegetable and fruit markets for those who are still hungry!
